Jesus Son of God.

1   Imagery expressions.

        God is spirit (John 4:24) and certainly does not have a body or body parts (hands, face, mouth, eyes). He does not stand upright nor sit, physically speaking. But a symbolic language using these expressions (anthropomorphisms) is used by the Bible, so that people can understand what is expressed.

2   Birth of Jesus.

        Jesus was not given birth by God as children are given birth by their human fathers. Nevertheless the angel says to Mary : "The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God" (Luke 1:35). This miraculous birth by the action of the Holy Spirit on the virgin is even recognized by the Koran.

3   Range of the expression sons of God.

        The prophets and men of God often had particular names. Abraham is called "friendly of God" (Isaiah 41:8). Jesus has many names: Jesus (the Eternal Saviour), Emmanuel (God with us; Matthew 1:23), Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, Prince of peace (Isaiah 9:6).

        In the Gospels, we read that God said about Jesus "This one is my beloved son... listen to him" (Matthew 17:5). Who does a man love most, his friend or his son? His son, of course! To distinguish him from all the others, God called Jesus his son. What did God mean?

        We say that the son is the image of his father. Thus, by seeing Jesus we gain a better knowledge of God (John 14:9). A son has the same nature as his father. That was the case of Jesus (John 5:18). A son can take the place of his father, and can represent him, and speak in his name, it's what Jesus had done when He was among mankind. That is why we also call him the Word of God as. God spoke through him (Hebrews 1:3).

        This is why we use the expression "sons of God".

4   An idea to dispute.

        When we dispute the idea suggesting that God would have given birth to a son, this is in order to contradict the idolaters who teach that the gods marry and give birth to boys and girls. We believe that it is right to argue against this incorrect teaching.
